Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve

District-owned Calabazas Creek Open Space Preserve is a 1,290-acre property that was protected in 2004. People can visit this preserve by joining the Volunteer Patrol or by participating in guided outings. This spectacular property overlooks the Valley of the Moon and features a number of creeks, including Calabazas Creek. Guided tours allow visitors to enjoy the wildflowers, ferns, oaks, redwoods, and open grasslands that cover this diverse property. The District is currently developing a Resource Management Plan for the preserve. In the meantime, trained volunteer patrollers regularly visit and care for the property and docents lead periodic guided outings.
Nuestros voluntarios son muy valiosos ya que son los "ojos y oídos" de nuestras reservas de espacios abiertos. Unirse a la Patrulla de Voluntarios es una excelente manera de descubrir este hermoso lugar en su área mientras ayuda al personal del Distrito a administrar y cuidar los recursos naturales en la propiedad.
La orientación tiene una duración de tres horas. Se trata de aproximadamente 45 minutos de cubrir los aspectos prácticos de la patrulla de voluntarios, compartir algunos antecedentes de la reserva y revisar el mapa y las rutas. Esto será seguido por una caminata de dos horas. ¡La parte de la caminata es opcional pero no se la puede perder!
Where: Meet in the quarry off of Nuns Canyon Road in Glen Ellen. Take the first left after Nelligan Road — see map (PDF).
What to bring: Sturdy hiking shoes, hiking poles or stick (there is a creek crossing, steep terrain, and a short section of rocky area), hat, sunglasses, water, and a snack or lunch, and, if desired, coffee or other hot beverage. Light rain is possible, so bring rain apparel or umbrella and galoshes. The orientation will proceed in light rain but will be canceled in the event of heavy rain.
