Build community and learn about plants and wildlife during our hands-on work party stewarding vernal pools! Haroutunian South is a special protected site on the Santa Rosa Plain that is closed to the public. It is 20 acres and has a variety of vernal pool and upland habitat and is home to two federally listed endangered species. The Laguna Foundation works with Sonoma County Ag + Open Space to manage this site and ensure that the unique vernal plants and animals thrive.
We will be clipping Himalayan blackberry that is encroaching on Sonoma sunshine (Blennosperma bakeri) habitat as well as doing other maintenance tasks to promote biodiversity in the vernal pool area of the site. And, of course, we’ll learn fun facts and share stories about nature throughout the morning – it is a work party, after all. No experience is required; tools, snacks, and refreshments will be provided!
There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
Please note this is an in-person event. All in-person events follow current Sonoma County health orders and guidelines for group activities to keep everyone safe during COVID-19. Please let us know in advance if you can no longer attend so we can offer a spot to someone on the waitlist.
