Note: this is a series with multiple dates April-October. While we encourage people to attend as many workshops within this series as they can, they may also attend as a one day event.

Just shy of 300 acres, McCullough Ranch is composed of mixed hardwood forests, oak woodlands, grasslands, and riparian corridors that support Steelhead Trout and Coho Salmon. Protected since 2002, this property is situated in the Mayacama Mountain Range that divides Northeastern Santa Rosa from Calistoga. Come explore what the creeks of McCullough have to offer!

Special thanks to the Open Space District for securing this land and making it available for guided hikes. Though protected from development, this property remains private- another reason to join us for our Nature Journaling excursion!

The terrain will consist of ranch roads & smaller trails. Depending on conditions, total distance may be up to 3 miles. We will take frequent stops to talk about the region, collect inspiring materials, work independently in our nature journals, & enjoy the view! This is a moderate to strenuous hike with some steep sections.

Details:
There is no charge for this outing. It is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who funded the District’s work with a quarter-cent sales tax, in partnership with the District’s non-profit partner, LandPaths (The District protects land and LandPaths connects you with that land)

Please review the hike options & make sure you are prepared

We will hike at a pace that allows us to stay together in a group

Cooley Ranch is private property and is only open for guided tours like this one

You will be asked to sign a liability waiver prior to the hike

No pets or smoking are permitted and absolutely no smoking pets!

There are no restrooms on our route. There will be plenty of ‘topographic diversity’ – please plan accordingly.

What to bring: Sturdy boots or shoes, warm layers (we will go in a light to medium rain), picnic dinner, snacks & water, binoculars, hiking poles or stick, your own nature journal, pen, pencil, eraser, (water) colored pencils.

Registration is required for this event. Registration link: http://www.landpaths.org/eventdetails.aspx?EventId=24662
