Full Moon and Perseids Meteor Shower Walk at Van Hoosear Preserve
Join Sonoma Ecology Center naturalists at Van Hoosear Wildflower Preserve for one of the most spectacular displays of (sky) blooms of the year. While it may not be wildflower season, the Perseids meteor shower does grace us with a beautiful array of shapes and colors across the night sky. Due to it also lining up with a nearly full moon, we may lose some of the fainter meteors but be crazed with the smiling face of the moon. Experience a pristine spring grassland and take in the warm mid-summer evening. Ag + Open Space protected this 162-acre property in the foothills of Sonoma Mountain with a conservation easement in 2004. The property is managed under a partnership with the landowner and Sonoma Ecology Center to protect the Preserve’s unique plants, thriving streams, and wildlife habitat.
This outing is a beginning-level walk over gently sloped land. Most of the walk is through grassland, generally not on trails, so the footing can be uneven. There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
