Sue Jackson was more than just an exceptional administrator—she was a cornerstone of Ag + Open Space, a fierce advocate for her colleagues, and a source of endless laughter and support. She first joined our staff in 2009, bringing with her a meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. Even after her official retirement, Sue remained deeply connected to the team, continuing as extra help until she became ill.
In truth, she just couldn’t quit us – and we are forever grateful for the many years she dedicated to making our work better, smoother, and more efficient.
Sue had an incredible knack for organization, ensuring that processes for insurance, contracts, and board items were clear, effective, and adhered to by all. The administrative staff still benefit from the systems she put in place, a testament to her diligence and expertise. As Clerk of the Board for the Fiscal Oversight Commission, she masterfully navigated the complexities of managing different personalities, and hot topics. Her deep institutional knowledge of Ag + Open Space, the properties we protect, the Fiscal Oversight Commission, and the County as a whole made her an invaluable resource—one who, it seemed, knew everyone and everything.
Beyond her professional excellence, Sue was beloved for her warmth, humor, and impeccable sense of style. She was known for her bold lipstick colors, which she wore with unmatched confidence, and for dressing to the nines no matter the occasion. Her quick wit kept the entire Admin team laughing, especially when she and Carrie Johnson, Secretary, teamed up to deliver joke after joke. Sue had a gift for observing what was happening in the lives of those around her, offering grace and understanding as we all navigated the ups and downs of life.
Above all, Sue’s greatest love was her family. Anyone who spoke with her heard about her deep adoration for her children and grandchildren. She carried that same care and devotion into her work family, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, camaraderie, and joy. While we deeply miss her presence in Admin, we find comfort in the impact she made and the memories we share.
Thank you, Sue, for everything—you will always be a part of Ag + Open Space.
