This is a significant opportunity to play a key management role with the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District, one of the nation’s leading open space conservation organizations. The Community Relations Manager will be responsible for overseeing public information and outreach programs, land outings and educational programs, and public and media relations strategy and programs of the District. There is currently one full-time vacancy available for Community Relations Manager.
The Community Relations Manager’s primary role is to develop, plan, implement, and supervise the public information, media relations, outreach and education activities of the District. The position will have considerable responsibility for developing a strategic communications plan aimed at initiating new public outreach programs designed to brand the District throughout the local community and in the greater region.
This position will also be responsible for assisting in the development of partnerships throughout the community with media representatives, elected officials, and key agencies and partners to advance the District’s mission and strategic vision.
The Community Relations Manager will assist in developing community relations and public outreach policies; managing complex public outreach and community relations projects including planning and implementation; developing budgets and work plans; and serving as a liaison to various public, non-profit, and advisory groups and agencies.
The District is seeking an ideal candidate who has: - A strong background in public relations, media outreach and development, community involvement, and public education including previous experience working with public agencies and non-profit organizations. - A proven track record planning and implementing a communications program linking public information, media relations, community outreach and education activities to further public awareness of an organization. - Ability to anticipate public relations problems and to recognize public relations opportunities and react accordingly, particularly with respect to communications media. - Ability to be a team player, and build and maintain effective relationships with environmental groups, citizen and community groups, business interests, community leaders, elected officials, and the general public. - Knowledge of current internet practices and protocols of communication, emerging communications mediums, and networking and outreach resources. - Excellent writing, website editorial content development, graphics arts and design skills including experience preparing news releases, presentations, newsletters, announcements, fact sheets, and pamphlets. - Proven ability to develop and deliver presentations before boards, committees and citizen's groups and, under direction from general management, serve as the District's primary media representative and spokesperson with community groups, civic groups, public agencies and private organizations. - Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to exercise initiative, good judgment and tact. - A passion for reaching out to all levels of society to further the District’s mission and goals, particularly underserved areas within the County. - A good sense of humor.
